Starting fall 2009, program will immerse students in the global marketplace
Buffalo, NY Beginning in fall 2009, Canisius College will introduce a masters of science degree in international business (MIB). The program will be offered through the Richard J. Wehle School of Business and will immerse students in the global marketplace through a combination of innovative coursework, international experiences and real world research.
Globalization is having a dramatic impact on todays business world and companies now seek employees who understand how business is conducted globally, speak a second language and have world travel experience, explains Coral R. Snodgrass, PhD, professor of management and marketing, and director of the MIB program. This new program is designed to produce students who meet all those needs. At the same time, it takes full advantage of Buffalos strategic placement on an international border.
The masters in international business degree is a two-year, 39 credit hour program. Students who enroll will choose among courses on the fundamentals of international business; global logistics; global supply chain management; market research; business in the European Union, Asia and Latin America; international marketing; trade mission and international entrepreneurship; international finance; and modern languages. Students are also required to study abroad.
The new international business masters degree incorporates the strength of Canisius renowned traditional business curriculum and puts special emphasis on the courses that provide the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the international business arena, says Antone F. Alber, PhD, dean of the Wehle School of Business.
The masters program in international business was developed by the Richard J. Wehle School of Business with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Programming for this project has been carried out in cooperation with the Womens Business Center at Canisius and with the World Trade Center of Buffalo-Niagara (WTCBN), an international business development organization established to strengthen the competitive international position of companies in Upstate New York and Niagara, Ontario.
